What materials are your bell tents made from?

Breathe Bell Tents are made from high-quality cotton canvas or technical polycotton canvas, depending on the range and its intended use.

ProTech Bell Tents

Our ProTech bell tents are made from heavy-duty, breathable 100% cotton canvas. This natural fabric helps regulate temperature, reduces condensation and provides the traditional look and feel for which canvas bell tents are known.

ProTech tents are particularly well suited to regular camping, events and glamping applications requiring a heavier canvas construction.

Traveller Bell Tents

Our Traveller bell tents are manufactured from Tentex® PC28 polycotton canvas, comprising approximately 65% cotton and 35% polyester.

This 285g/m² fabric combines the breathability and comfort of cotton with the lighter weight and practical performance of polyester. Traveller tents are designed primarily for camping holidays, festivals, weekends away and other recreational use.

Apex Professional Bell Tents

Our Apex tents use Tentex® TC30 technical cotton canvas, a premium cotton-rich polycotton fabric comprising approximately 95% cotton and 5% polyester.

This material is reinforced and treated for increased durability, UV resistance, water resistance and protection against mould and rot. The Apex range is designed for professional glamping, intensive use and longer-term installations.

Groundsheets, Poles and Fittings

Depending on the particular model, our tents include:

  • A heavy-duty waterproof bathtub-style groundsheet made from PVC or reinforced polyethylene
  • Strong steel or aluminium poles
  • UV-treated guy ropes
  • Heavy-duty steel pegs
  • Integrated mosquito mesh on applicable models
  • Reliable zips and reinforced attachment points

The bathtub-style groundsheet rises above ground level to help prevent water from entering around the base of the tent.

Are the Canvas Materials Waterproof?

The canvas is treated during manufacture to resist water, UV exposure, mould and rot while remaining breathable. New cotton-canvas tents should be seasoned before their first trip by pitching and thoroughly wetting the canvas, then allowing it to dry completely. This helps the fibres settle around the seams and improves water resistance.

Over time, every canvas tent will require appropriate cleaning, care and occasional reproofing. The exact maintenance schedule will depend on how frequently the tent is used and how long it remains exposed to sun, rain and humidity.
